Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
There were 10 of us who showed up to brave the decidedly choppy waters of Juniper Bay this morning. The water temperature had dipped to 20 degrees but, when compared to the 14 degree air temperature, was still comfortably warm (even without a wetsuit, Darin).
After a slog out to the Point, we were chatting in the churn and Kylie was saying that this was what it was like for the last seven hours of her Channel Swim. For the rest of us who had been slogging for, like,12 to 15 minutes, this seemed almost unimaginable! We then started trying to convince Kylie to do a 1.5K ATLS swim entirely swimming butterfly. "____ NO!" was her response. The guys being guys, interpreted this to mean "She hasn't totally committed to it yet."
We somehow goaded each other to swim to the corner at the end of the Point after which we could ride the waves back to the Beach. The six of us who did then followed the rest of the group back.
The weather will be warmer when we do this again on Tuesday at 5:30 pm, air quality permitting.
Cheers,
Mike
