Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
Our mouths stood agape as we walked down into the park and gazed over Juniper Bay. What was that we saw? Was it flat water? We weren't sure what it looked like anymore. Was this it? We did a deep dive into our memory banks to try to recall whether it had looked like this.
Just as a further check, the thirteen of us scrambled into the 19 degree water to see what it felt like. We all started off to the point and lo and behold, we could maintain an actual rhythm! No waves over our faces when we tried to breathe! No arm recoveries stopped dead in their tracks! No tugs on the swim buddies! We could see the swimmers ahead of us! We resented the interruption from the boat!
Once we got to the Point, we were so excited that we recklessly committed to swimming all the way to Gary's log. Sean, as always, wanted to go even further but everyone else had stuff to do today so he settled for Gary's log on the promise we might try next week. Seven of us made it to Gary's log and Kim made it to Dog Beach Point close by. The others in the group went well into the sunny flat water on the Cosens Bay side.
After getting back to Juniper Beach we were all excited about doing this again on Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 pm. Once we finish that swim, we get to return to our laptops or phones to track Robynne as she is tentatively scheduled to start her Channel swim from Samphire Hoe just west of Dover at somewhere between 7 and 8 pm our time (sunrise her time). Kylie is scheduled to go two days later, likely at a similar time.
Now if only they could have the same flat water that we had today!
Cheers,
Mike
