Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:

Just over an hour ago Robynne set off from Samphire Hoe just west of Dover for the start of her channel swim. If you go to the WhatsApp chat (link was provided in Sunday's email) you will see another link to the Sea Leopard, her guide boat. It has a map showing her (the boat's) progress. The start looks a bit strange because it shows the boat leaving Dover harbour and then following the shore to Samphire Hoe. That's where Robynne dove into the water from the boat and swam to shore. Once on shore fully out of the water she signalled to the boat and re-entered the water to officially start her swim. Next stop: FRANCE!

Now you can stay up all night and track her progress.

Prior to this, ten of us cooled off from the 36 degree heat on our swim from Juniper Beach earlier this evening. The water was rippled in the bay but quite choppy once we got past the Point. The water temperature was just shy of 22 degrees and somewhat colder once halfway out to the Point. It seems like Old Man Kalamalka takes longer to get it up every year!

Seven of us swam out to the Painted Rocks before racing back to the beach to get home to check on Robynne's progress. We'll do the same for Kylie on Thursday evening at 5:30pm.

Go Robynne Go!

Cheers,

Mike
