Sloggin' In The Rain

Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:

    "We're sloggin' in the rain

    Just sloggin' in the rain

    What a glorious feelin'

    We're happy again"

While our strokes likely didn't match the grace of Gene Kelly, the six of us slogged through a heavy chop again last evening. The water was 20 degrees at the beach decreasing to 19.2 at the Point. Getting ready for the swim, Darin was showing off the technology on his watch to us all. Looking at the waves coming at us made us wish that he could use it to beam us out to the Point so that we could surf back. No such luck so we all had to do the slog just like the previous three swims.

Naturally I had to take full responsibility for the conditions after suggesting that they might be improving for last night's swim. The recurring image of their accusatory fingers is leaving me with borderline PTSD!

Of course, once we got to the Point, Sean had to go further and cajoled Tim into heading off with him to the Painted Rocks. Darin, Carole, Monty and I were content to ride back with the current to Juniper Beach. That meant that we had to wait for them in the rain until they returned. We were not singing while we waited.

Let's hope (but not predict) that we get flatter water when we do this on Sunday at 8:00 am. Before that we will be cheering for Team Canada at 10am tomorrow, the same day that our erstwhile friendly neighbours to the south will be pledging deletions to their flag.

Our Channel Swimmers, Kylie and Robynne, are now safely in Dover, England readying for their swims next week. Robynne and Kylie are second and third in the cue for their window between July 6 and July 14. To track their swims go to their WhatsApp link below:

They are on the Sea Leopard.

Go Kylie! Go Robynne! Go Canada!

Cheers,

Mike
