Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:

You can imagine my disappointment after sleeping in until 6:15 this morning, looking out over the tranquil lake and seeing the overcast skies. This was followed by decidedly mixed feelings once it started to rain. I really appreciated the rain but my excitement about the morning swim was "dampened" considerably. Still the air temperature was one degree warmer than at the same time yesterday and I was going to get wet anyway.

So now imagine my disappointment when I arrived first at the park and saw that 99 of you had looked out the window and decided to stay on the couch or in bed. I measured the water temperature and stood in the lake readying for my solitary swim. Thankfully, just before I was to take off, Cindy, Robin and Steph came running down to the beach yelling "Wait up!" which I did gladly. The number was down to 96 now!

By the time we took off, the rain had almost dissipated completely and the 19 degree lake was still nice and calm. This changed as we approached the Point where we faced a considerable chop. Suddenly any desire to swim into Cosens Bay vanished and we were content to head back to the beach. The rain had stopped completely for our walk back up the trail.  The skies were brightening for another group of swimmers who were starting at 9:00.

We will swim again on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30pm. If there is a group that prefers the lake next Sunday, please let me know and we will schedule a lake swim for next weekend as well.

Also at this time we start planning our Night Swim. This has traditionally happened around the Equinox and goes from the west end of Kal Beach to the Pump House and back, followed by hot chocolate. We assemble at around 7:30 pm to hit the water before 8:00 when it's good and dark. This year the solstice is on Tuesday, September 22nd, four days before the full moon. That Tuesday will conflict with our Masters practice so it may be best to schedule for either Monday, Sept 21st or Wednesday, Sept 23rd. I would like to get feedback on your preferred date from those of you who wish to take part.

Looking forward to hearing from you about next Sunday and the Night Swim.

Cheers,

Mike
