Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
We were all smiles as the four of us had just completed the swim to Paul's Tomb north of Kelowna. Paul's Tomb is the small cove in the background of the picture. Next up was a leisurely 3.2k walk back to our vehicles at the foot of Knox Mountain followed by a hearty brunch downtown on the closed section of Barnard Ave. The water was calm and warm enough for all of us except Darin who had to lug his wetsuit back to the car on the walk. Even though we were walking at a modest pace, we made sure that no one of single digit or triple digit age passed us. We all agreed that we need to include this swim at least once every summer.
After watching the Light and Sound show on Saturday evening, eight of us were keen to get into Kal Lake which had perhaps risen by 0.1 mm overnight. Thankfully the water was nice and glassy this morning and was 4 degrees warmer than the 18 degree air. Seven of us started out from Juniper Beach while four of us continued past the Point to the Painted Rocks. Gary continued all the way to Dog Beach even though he was still "fresh?" off the Paul's Tomb swim. He met up with Rob who started later and accompanied him on the way back into the beach. Some gray clouds were threatening but no more thunder and rain.
It appears that the rain had beat some of the smoke down as the Air Quality Index was at "3" this morning. Hope it stays this low or lower for when we are back on Tuesday at 5:30 pm. I will be monitoring the Air Quality Index on Tuesday afternoon and will send an email out if it appears that the Index is too high a risk to swim.
