Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
You may recall the report from two distraught swimmers a few weeks ago as they reported on the demise of Gary's Log. Apparently, rumours of the Log's death have been greatly exaggerated! Today, four swimmers out of the twelve of us who swam today went out to Gary's Log and confirmed earlier rumours that the Log has been revived and sits intact in its original location. This prompted a deep theological discussion over who should claim credit for its rise from the dead: the Prostitutes or the Catheters? (No offense intended) One more thing for them to dispute!
Prior to the debate, we all enjoyed the blue skies, the almost smoke free 16 degree air, and 20.5 degree water to swim out to the Painted Rocks, with Tim, Carole, Dana and Donna venturing through choppy water to check out Gary's Log (ie the Lazarus Log). Also joining us was Robynne on her paddleboard, keeping busy herding all the stragglers to the Painted Rocks.
While intense debate ensued, the majority of us were able to set aside differences sufficiently to enjoy delicious crepes at Sovereign Park afterward. Some of us were seeing Robynne for the first time since returning from her Channel Swim and we enjoyed hearing about some of the challenges she faced.
Assuming that the smoke from area fires stays clear, we will swim again on Tuesday at 5:30 pm. I'm sure that you are joining me in thoughts about the hundreds of persons evacuated yesterday who are now anxiously awaiting news about their homes, businesses and other possessions.
Cheers,
Mike
