Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
I realized that the weather app was lying when it said we were getting gusts up to 9 km per hour while I was watching a windsurfer skimming across the lake. It didn't forecast any rain for this afternoon at 4pm. However, that changed a bit at 4:30 when it predicted "a few drops of rain in the next hour". While the dark clouds looked ominous, they were skimming diagonally across the sky and appeared to be passing us by.
As a result, there were no weather worries when the six of us ventured into the 20 degree water, four in rubber, Phred in happy feet and yours truly naked. The waves looked pretty daunting but were mostly at our backs on the leg out to the Point. When we got there Darin, Phred, and I continued to the next point to check out Cosens Bay and to experience the privilege of swimming in flat water. Tim, noting that Carole had turned back earlier, opted to preserve his marital status by going back from the Point to check on her. Rhian joined him on the return.
As Phred, Darin, and I returned to the Point, it started to rain lightly just as the app had predicted. Phred lamented what it was doing to his hair. Darin did not.
The leg back to Juniper Beach was a tough slog into the waves. I especially felt for Phred who was swimming in spite of the fact that he'd had a colonoscopy earlier today. We ended up being very thankful that we didn't venture further into Cosens Bay as Tim advised us that they'd heard a clap of thunder just as we were approaching the beach. So much for the benign forecast on the weather app. Further thunderclaps followed while we were drying off in the park.
On the walk back up we discussed Phred's scope and speculated on how challenging a career it would be to be colonoscopist. Darin didn't think that it would be nearly as bad as his career as a Math Teacher. "After all, he only has to face one little ------- at a time!
We will swim again on Sunday morning at 8:00 am. That should get us home and showered well before we start cheering for Canada at noon. I wonder what discussion topics will come up then!
Also, if you are registered for any of the ATLS swims, there is the regular clinic at 7am Saturday at Gyro Beach in Kelowna.
Cheers,
Mike
