Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:

A group of four of us ambitiously started out at 7:15 with a plan to swim all the way to Cosens Bay Point. However, a heavy chop that got bigger at the Point put a damper on our enthusiasm and we decided that Gary's log was ambitious enough under the conditions. While John and Gary wore wetsuits, Phred (who doesn't own one) and I were just fine swimming naked in the 19 degree water.

On our way back we ran into eleven more swimmers right at the corner just past the Point into Cosens Bay. There we found that Sean and Cindy were swimming naked along with nine more wetsuit weenies. Monty swam with only floatie pants but had turned back at the Point. Seven of the group decided that the Painted Rocks were enough in the chop. However, Sean, Cindy, Tim and David, refusing to be outdone by some men in their seventies, went all the way to Gary's Log or thereabouts. Thankfully the waves were behind everyone on the final leg back to Juniper Beach.

As the four of us waited on the shore for the group to finish we overheard Lynn muttering "memo to self: Take fins off before wetsuit!".

Also, during the after-swim banter in the park, Phred gave a (perhaps overly) detailed description of the fan streaking across the field at yesterday's BC Lions game in Kelowna. It reminded me of when I took part in the Great Streak by the UBC Engineers when it was all the rage in 1974. I think that I'm the only person anywhere who's had his bare rear end recognized by his mother on the national news.

While we didn't wait for Sean, Cindy, Tim and David, we all were back in plenty of time to watch Canada win a nail-biter to make it to the round of 16 at the World Cup.

That's even more incentive to dress up in your Canada regalia when we do our annual Canada Day swim at 8:00 on Wednesday. We will also swim at 5:30 on Tuesday and Thursday this week.

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Mike
