The Hazy Wavy Days Of (not quite) Summer

Hello Kal Lake Swimmers,

As we gathered at the picnic tables we remarked that it was quite hazy. Phred, ever the sleuth, had already scoured the web for answers but came up empty. Still, despite the smoky skies and whitecaps, we were undeterred. Four swimmers ventured into the rocking and rolling waves tonight. Even though I thought the water felt cooler, 3 of us swam "naked" accompanied by Monty in his floatie pants.

We ploughed through the waves to the Point, dodging everything from two daredevils on Sea-Doos, a boater, and a loon that narrowly escaped a head on collision with Phred.

Once we reached the Point, we didn’t hang around—Ashley had two kids waiting on shore, and the only thing keeping them calm was a promised Slurpee run. She had to hustle!

On the way back, the lake calmed down considerably. A little disappointing, since we were secretly hoping for the thrill of surfing waves back to shore. Still, the ride home came with its own entertainment—I counted no fewer than seven deer along the way. Oh dear indeed.

Although debate continues on whether the water temperature is still holding around 20°C, what's certain is that the Vernon Plungers made their season debut this past Sunday, proving it’s never too early (or too cold!) to keep the lake vibes going.

For anyone brave enough to join the fun through the winter, here are the local plunge groups:

Until next time—may your swims be chill, your wildlife plentiful, and your bribes effective.

I'm likely to be back in the lake Thursday at 5:30 pm if anyone wants to join me.

For those of you who are registered with Vernon Masters, there is a lot of room Tuesday and Thursday nights, 8:15-9:15pm. Come join us!

Vernon Masters Swim Club Facebook page is a space to share information about upcoming swimming events, plan loca...
