Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
The air temperature was 14 when we got into water that was 7 degrees warmer than the air this morning. There were eleven of us starting together, but we had been preceded by Robynne and Kylie who were doing their two laps to Cosens Beach and back. Gary followed later to round out our total to 14 swimmers. When we got to the Point we were greeted by Conan in a boat who wished us all well. We checked if he had any beer (we were asking for Monty) but unfortunately Conan and his partner had already finished theirs so we were disappointed. All the talk about beer caused a duck to swim right into our midst. After checking us out she ended up swimming away loudly, utterly disillusioned with our group.
Conan was kind enough to send me some pictures by text. Unfortunately, my cell phone and my laptop are having a spat and refuse to talk to one another, thereby denying me the ability to share them with you.
We carried on with John, Tim, Darin and David swimming to Gary's log while Cindy, Beth, Carole, Sarah, Rob, Monty and I swam to Dog Beach, ostensibly for a change of scenery. The four speedy guys swam back to Dog Beach and joined us for the two return legs. Gary swam out to his log a bit later.
We finished in sunshine grateful for the calm conditions and the delay of the storm to later in the day.
While we are finished doing formal swims on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, we will be doing Sunday mornings for the next two weeks as the water temperature should continue to make wetsuits superfluous. Except for the Lake Swim on Saturday, our next formal swim will be on Sunday September 21 at 8:00am.
There are a few swimmers who have indicated that they may come out on Tuesday and Thursday this week (Kylie, Gary, Monty) Please email the group to let everyone know so that they can choose to join you. Swimming with a partner in Cosens Bay is recommended due to its remoteness.
As indicated in my earlier email, Kara has been kind enough to host us for a light meal of pulled pork and coleslaw before our Night Swim on Saturday. If you are attending the Night Swim please let Kara and me know so that we have some idea of numbers. Her email is ktriance@gmail.com. If you are just coming to swim at Sovereign Park at 7:30 just let me know.
I will send out a reminder with details for the Night Swim again later this week. If you have any questions in the meantime, just contact me directly.
Cheers,
Mike
