🏊♀️ KPMG Swim = Kylie Phred Monty Go Swim 🏖️
A warm evening. A quiet beach. And three aquatic adventurers who refuse to let summer go quietly...
I offered Phred the honour of writing today’s swim recap — after all, he did come up with the catchy title. But, in true Phred fashion, he respectfully declined. So here we are.
Despite a balmy day that supposedly hit 29°C, only three of us found our way down to Juniper Beach this evening. The crowds may have vanished, but the water? Still deliciously warm — definitely above 20°C, and every bit as inviting as we hoped.
Phred showed up in his phins. Monty donned his phloaty pants. Which left me, proudly and stubbornly, as the lone purist — no gadgets, no gear, just goggles and suit.
Now, Phred was nursing a sore shoulder (we’ll blame Jiu-Jitsu for that).
💡 Life Lesson #1: You may feel like a teenager, but your body know better.
With three nods of consent, we agreed: the Point was the goal. We glided out through calm, silky water and lingered there for a while, philosophizing about the perils of handing over a self made business to the next generation.
💡 Life Lesson #2: Kids are wonderful — but no, they don’t come with a money-back guarantee so enjoy your retirement your way!
Eventually, we turned and meandered our way back to Juniper, some perhaps in a more straight line than others. I was just maximizing my time in the lake and soaking up the glorious surroundings. The sun dipped lower, the water shimmered, and the three of us silently agreed: it’s far too soon to call this the end of open water season.
Swim on,
Smiley Kylie (your guest writer, one more time this season)
PS. For those of you who are pool swimmers, I am excited to report Vernon Masters swim season has officially started!
I was joined in the pool tonight by many regulars, a few new faces, our new coach Jacob and special guest coach Renate. It was a great workout which I am sure my body will feel tomorrow.
