Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
I know, juxtaposing a Dolly Parton movie with a Neil Diamond song is bit corny, but it really does apply to today. Of the twelve swimmers out this morning we had seven of us swimming naked while five were in wetsuits. The water temperature was 21.6 degrees and conditions ranged from rippled at the start to choppy on the return leg. As the weather cools it becomes more of a challenge to see how long the naked swimmers hold out before donning the rubber. This year should allow many of us to keep going well into late September as we will have warm weather for the next two weeks.
Of the dozen of us, Robynne and Kylie continued without stopping on their "shorter" swim to Cosens Beach, only doing one lap today. We welcomed Judie back and she and Venke stopped at the Point, Venke swimming without her wetsuit. The other eight of us were content to stop at the Painted Rocks after doing the longer swim yesterday.
At the Painted Rocks the rest period was a chance to discuss plans for "plunging" in the winter. There are some plungers who go to local areas around Vernon but Sean, Darin and I, among some others, plunge at Pebble Beach in Lake Country on Saturday mornings. We make the trip as conditions there are favourable. We can park close to the beach and the water gets deep quite quickly. If anyone on this list is interested in joining us, I can provide more details and answer questions. There are precautions that need to be taken to stay safe. Of course, with our Indian Summer it will be a while before the water will be cold enough to actually switch from swimming to plunging.
I look forward to seeing several of you beating the heat at Juniper Beach tomorrow at 5:30pm.
Cheers,
Mike
