Sunday Swim Report
An overcast morning gave way to blue skies and sunshine. The 22° air temperature closely matched the (unmeasured) water temperature… and for the first time in a while the water was smooth and calm with no waves and not even a large boat wake to disrupt the glassy water. We had a large group of 23 swimmers starting at 8:00 plus Monty who started early and two others who were finished well before our start time. A significant number of swimmers were new to our group and joined us to check out the start of Saturday’s Kalamalka swim in the Across the Lake swim series. It was great to see some new faces!
Mike (who was busy cooking breakfast for his houseguests) will be sad to hear that only 6 of 23 swimmers were ‘naked’—and most of those 6 had floaty pants or cheat feet or other enhancements. He would have enjoyed the opportunity to tease those of us wearing ‘wuss suits’, and I suspect he would’ve enjoyed the smug feeling of knowing that as a ‘purist’ he is just a little superior to us neoprene-clad cheaters.
We had three turn around at the point and another 2 turned at the painted rocks. That left a huge group of 18 who swam all the way to Gary’s Log for a 3km round trip! None of us could remember a larger group at that distance, so it may have been a record day for distance and for wetsuits!
We missed having the rest of you there, and we hope to see you all out for the next swims: Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 5:30. I’m off to visit the Albertian side of my family for a few days, so I’ll see you on the beach for Saturday’s race or back at Juniper for Sunday’s recovery swim.
Enjoy!
Darin
