All We Needed Was Detergent

Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:

...and we would have been the cleanest athletes in the whole Okanagan! Such was the churn between the Point and the Painted Rocks this evening. The waves were not as big as on Tuesday but they came from all directions.

The dark clouds loomed on the horizon but graciously stayed there throughout, just menacing enough to keep boats off the lake. They failed to deter eight of us who got to enjoy the 23.5 degree water. Sadly, while they may have been "clean", six of the eight were nevertheless "impure", either wearing full wetsuits, floaty pants or fins, presumably to enhance performance. With only Carleigh and I maintaining our "pure" status, we got the special picnic table after the swim. Such a thrill to attain this exalted status! Sean is in mourning cuz he missed it!

We also realized that the "churn" was excellent training for Kylie who will likely be facing similar conditions when she swims the English Channel in one year's time. Phred, who will be one of guides for the swim, warned her about staying clear of the boat to avoid disqualification. He threatened to insert himself between her and the boat (perhaps with reduced sartorial adornment) to absolutely guarantee her separateness. While this Saturday will be a Sturgeon Moon, I wonder what they'll call the moon that day! Kylie didn't sound too scared.

We will do this again in beautiful sunny weather this Sunday at 8:00am. Hope that several of you don't have to miss out!

Cheers,
Mike
