Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
Not even the persistent boat wash could dampen the otherwise perfect conditions for our annual Cosens Bay jump-off! Nine of us set off from Juniper Beach in 22.5 degree rippled water under sunny 28 degree skies. Only two of our group wore rubber, as now that the water exceeds 22 degrees, rubber is officially called a "wuss-suit". We did have two sets of fins, atonement for which was one jump from the 10 metre high cliffs behind the Painted Rocks.
Even the local teens were intrigued to see three old men and Olivia climbing up to a perch much higher than theirs. As the pictures show, we started with Darin displaying superb jumping skills and panache. He was shortly followed by Sean, a picture of grace in mid-flight. Next came intrepid Olivia full of confidence and excitement. Finally came Pharkin Phearless Phred, limbs akimbo as he pummeled the water on the landing!
After the jumpers checked and retrieved their smartwatches (and two pairs of fins that were not worn by Darin and Sean) we returned to Juniper Beach where the jumpers savoured their accomplishments and basked in their glory. Olivia decided that she needs to do this again so that she could observe free-fall without her tonsils. Phred just kept muttering under his breath about having to find new (and presumably different) phriends.
We will do this once again on Thursday at 5:30pm sans the jumping part. After all, several of us are doing our final tune-up swims before the Across the Lake Swim on Saturday.
Cheers,
Mike
