Record 25 for 25

Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:

For 2025 we had a record number of swimmers who saw fit to take advantage of the glorious Sunday morning weather. 25 of us were in the calm 18 degree water, a number of whom were new faces. Kylie and Robynne had left Juniper Beach 2 hours earlier as they were doing several? laps to Cosens Beach and back. Gary had left early and gone a bit further as he was doing 4K. The other 22 of us had a mass start at Juniper Beach. Good practice for the Mosh Pit starts at the ATLS events! And good practice for some of us who tried drafting.

Only a few turned back at the Point with the rest of us venturing into Cosens Bay. In addition to Gary, Kylie and Robynne, we had another 13 of us swimming out to Dog Beach Point, which might also be a record. In fact, conditions were so good that five  swimmers (as well as Kylie and Robynne) decided then and there to carry on to Cosens Beach for a 6.6K round trip. The rest of us swam for home knowing that we had done our 3K this morning regardless of what our "smart" watches were telling us.

The water was brisk but not too uncomfortable for the eight of us who swam naked. With the upcoming warm weather, the water temperature should be warming up back over 20 degrees soon, hopefully warm enough to coax a few more swimmers out of wetsuits. Once the water is over 22 degrees, I'll start calling them "wuss-suits" again.

Our next group swim is scheduled for 8:00am on Holiday Tuesday and that will be a Memorial Swim to the Painted Rocks for Craig. If you show up at our normal Tuesday time of 5:30pm, don't expect to see anyone joining you. When you join in on Tuesday morning, bring/wear your Canadiana. No, I'm not sure that just swimming with high elbows really counts! Maybe we can break the record for numbers again.

Cheers,

Mike
