Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
It was a windy, overcast evening at Juniper Beach that greeted the seven of us last night. Once in the 20.5 degree water we had to wait for boat traffic to clear out from our swimming lane. While we were waiting we noted that everyone had their watches ready to start exactly when we were to start swimming. This prompted a discussion about how it was just like Flight Attendants whose "clocks" only started when the plane commenced pushback. Sympathy was expressed for their hard work, especially for the ones working for the seniors' travel cohort on "Incontinental Airlines".
Once past the white buoys, the water was somewhat colder and it progressively became more "turbulent". Five of us agreed to brave the chop out to the Painted Rocks while the other two had had enough at the Point. Monty took his usual wide turn so he probably completed 2K swimming just to the Point and back.
Aided by speedy fins and a smaller relative of Robynne's pink flamingo, Phred was in phine phorm through the heavy chop on the Cosens Bay side. We could all see him coming!
We met Julie at the Point and she joined us on the homeward leg. Once back at the beach we could all stand in the wind to blow dry our hair. Combing it was another matter!
We are doing this again on Sunday at 8:00am. Weather is improving over the weekend and should help bring the lake temperature back up to over 20 degrees consistently. That's good news for all of you who are now joining us from the pool.
I will bring cherries!
I hope that everyone is rummaging thru their Canadiana for our swim for Craig at 8:00 on Tuesday morning!
Cheers,
Mike
