Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
We had to wend our way through the various piles of fresh bear scat as we made our way to Juniper Beach this morning. By the time we got there we had nine of us braving the cool, overcast conditions. The 18.5 degree water was still warm enough for us to swim without too much whining, at least after the initial dunking. Two of us were rubberized while six of us were naked and John M was clad in a thermal top and floatie shorts. This only made him even faster than usual. Even though Cindy and Darin were both snug and smug in their wetsuits, Darin still snivelled as he got dunked.
The leg out to the Point was through the same choppy water as previous swims. Five of us were rewarded with flat water as we carried on to the Painted Rocks. We lingered at each spot just long enough for me to whine that I was shivering.
In spite of the cool 12 degree air, the four who turned back at the Point were kind enough to wait for the rest of us who returned somewhat later. Most of us agreed that this was enjoyable enough for us to do this one more Sunday next week. This will be in addition to the Night Swim that we are doing at 7:30 pm from the Rail Trail Cafe parking lot on Wednesday, September 23rd. I recommend that you wear wetsuits next Sunday as the water temperature will likely be colder than the 18 degrees we had today. I will provide more details about the Night swim in next week's email. I will be doing black line swimming on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from now on.
I note that some swimmers questioned my use of the word "eschewed" in the previous email. I will therefore eschew using this word in future emails.
