Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
It was a pleasantly mild evening as four of us, Kylie, Meredith, Sean and I ventured into the 20 degree water in a choppy Juniper Bay. All of us eschewed rubber, and there was some whining as the water felt colder than we had measured.
After some hesitation, we took off from the beach just before a speedboat charged across our bows, thankfully the only boat that we encountered. It was much calmer on the Cosens Bay side and we could hug the cliffs safe in the knowledge that there weren't any jumpers. We enjoyed the weather and calm water at the Painted Rocks and lingered there no longer complaining about the water. The trip back to the beach was still quite choppy in Juniper Bay.
This will be the final weekday evening swim, unless some of you want to continue on your own. I recommend against swimming alone on the Cosens Bay side. While the pool swims have started as of today, we will still do a swim this coming Sunday at 8:00am. If the weather cooperates, we may do another lake swim on Sunday September 20.
From your feedback, we have scheduled the Night Swim for 7:30 pm Wednesday September 23rd, one day after the sun crosses the equator into the southern hemisphere. I will send out more details shortly.
Also of note, Phred is currently swimming the channel as part of a three-person relay. They left at about 4am our time this morning so they are about halphway across. You can phollow his boat, the Gallivant, at https://ultraswimming.org/track/english-channel.
