Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:

Welcome to the first day of summer!

I hope that the attached song catches everyone's mood. It certainly felt like summer this morning for the seventeen of us at Juniper Beach. The water temperature had regressed a bit to 18 degrees. The fifteen swimmers bundled under a thick layer of rubber didn't seem to care too much, especially with a warm sun and glassy water surface. The other two, Monty and me, had already done a few swims in colder water so this temperature felt just fine. Conditions were so good that fully 10 swimmers made it all the way out to Gary's log.  Kudos to everyone who did it on their inaugural swim. Most others went well into Cosens Bay.

In addition to the start of summer, we are also celebrating Fathers Day. Not many people know this, but Fathers Day was first observed in nearby Spokane, Washington in 1910, two years after an explosion in a coal mine in West Virginia killed over 300 miners, most of whom were fathers. I know that many of us are thinking of our fathers today, both present and passed.

On a lighter note, what would Fathers Day be without Dad jokes? Here are two corny ones:

"I just found out that I'm colourblind. It came right out of the purple!"

"Did you know that your pupils are the last part of your body to stop working when you die? They dilate!"

We will do this again on Tuesday afternoon at 5:30. Hope to see such a big group again.

Cheers,

Mike
