In remembrance of Dr. Craig Goplen

Hello Kal lake Swimmers:

As you may or may not already know, the swimming community is deeply saddened by the loss of one our lake swimming friends, Craig Goplen, at the beginning of March. Craig was often in the pool with us, but his real love was to swim in Kal Lake. He especially loved our morning swims out to the Painted Rocks, where he could find peace in the serenity and beauty of his surroundings. Quite a number of us will dearly miss him during those swims this summer.

The Masters are doing a memorial pool swim for him on March 30th and there will be a celebration of his life at the Coldstream Community Hall on May 4th. With his love for swimming in the lake we also hope to have a memorial swim for him on a Sunday morning in June this year, where we will swim out to the Painted Rocks and back. We will wait until the lake temperature warms up to at least 18 degrees so that we can safely swim it in wetsuits. This should happen by mid- to late June.

Some of us will be in the lake well before then and will be monitoring the temperature. We will be sending you an update once the date for the swim is established.

Rest in peace, Craig!
