Last Swim of the Year

Hello Kal Lake Swimmers:
Please accept my apologies for the premature email and feel free to delete it as I've re-attached the song that captures how I (and likely others) feel about our final swim out of Juniper Beach.
It was a glorious morning when nine of us hit the water, greeted by Jake, Kayley and Mike who were just finishing as we started. The air temperature was a brisk 9 degrees so we were glad that the 18.5 degree water felt somewhat warmer, especially the three of us without wetsuits. The water was quite choppy in Juniper Bay but this time it was totally calm for the seven of us who ventured out to the Painted Rocks. Had the air and water been warmer, we would have tarried there much longer revelling in the bright sun and serenity of Cosens Bay.
The result was a collective lament over the end of the summer season which prompted me to enclose the song.

We do have one more swim this coming Friday night, our annual "Nite Swim" from Kal Beach. The swim will start at about 8:00 and we will swim feeling our way from the west end of Kal Beach to the Pumphouse and back, a distance of about 500 metres each way. It will be quite dark as moonrise occurs after we are done. We meet in the Rail Trail Cafe/Kalavida Surf Shop parking lot at about 7:30 to make sure everyone is ready at the same time. The gate will be kept open for us this year. Because we are swimming in the dark it will be required that each of us wear at least two lightsticks (one on each side) so that we are visible to everyone else. You are welcome to wear more lightsticks or other forms of creative glowing objects. Lightsticks are available in the camping section of Surplus Herby's and I will bring several extras for those of you who don't get a chance to pick up a pair.
After the swim I will have the following beverages for all of us to warm up afterward:
Hot Chocolate with Bailey's
Hot Chocolate without Bailey's
Bailey's without Hot Chocolate (for the purists)
As the water is getting colder, I will check it on Wednesday evening and let you know how the temperature is trending. Judge whether to bring a wetsuit accordingly.
In the meantime, most of us are back in the pool this week. The black lines await...
Cheers,
Mike
